Blooming at the local library

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

The Flower Shed's very own Lisa Biles and myself, Caitlynne Youmans, had a wonderful time this past Thursday at the Miller-Lakeland Library.

We traveled an extensive distance of 4.8 miles from the farm to the local library to share the beauty of flower farming with some really cool children!

The morning started off with a coloring activity where we went over the parts of a plant.

We had lots of help from the kids who attended, and one little dude even brought his own pair of scissors--he was ready for crafting time!

The next activity was my personal favorite, reading to everyone!

The first book was interactive, allowing the kids to mimic actions of rain, wind, planting seeds, and more. The second book was about planting a rainbow in your flower garden! One little girl had the best time telling us what the colors of the rainbow were.

We finished the morning with a sensory activity of planting a zinnia seed. Each kid scooped soil into their own pots, poked a hole in it, planted their seed in the soil, and filled the hole back in with soil. They learned how important it was to water their seeds and give them plenty of sunlight to grow.

Overall, the event was a huge success. We met so many awesome kiddos and had the best time sharing our farm with them and their families. Often, it is easy to forget how important outreach is for a community. This special experience reminded us that the farm is bigger than just picking a bouquet to take home. The Flower Shed U-Pick is an opportunity to teach others about agriculture.

Come visit our rainbow we have planted!

We hope to see you this Saturday from 9-1pm at the flower U-Pick.

We should be open every Saturday from now until October 29, 2022.

Our address is 412 Good Hope Rd. Naylor, GA.

Thank you to the Miller Lakeland library for this experience. We hope to visit again soon!
